Requirements

The Student Community Action Corps has various requirements depending on each position's specifics. All positions require you to meet the KU Student requirements listed below. In addition, a position will require you to either have Federal Work Study eligibility or be eligible for AmeriCorps service. More details on Federal Work Study and AmeriCorps requirements can be found below.

Requirements

  • Depending on the position, you either need to be Federal Work Study-eligible or AmeriCorps service eligible.

 

  • For Fall and Spring positions you must be a KU student enrolled in at least 6 credit hours.

 

  • For Summer positions you must be a KU student enrolled in at least 1 credit hour.

 

  • Federal work study requirements include that you have financial need for need-based aid, are a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen, and are enrolled in an eligible degree or certificate program at an eligible college or career/trade school. For more specific Federal Work Study Requirements. 

 

  • The FAFSA determines if you meet the criteria listed above and are eligible for a Federal Work Study Award. If you are eligible, you will be notified of and able to accept a Federal Work Study Award upon completion of the FAFSA.

 

 

  • If you think you may qualify for Federal Work Study and would like help navigating the FAFSA, or if you have any Federal Work Study eligibility questions reach out to financialaid@ku.edu

 

  • Be at least 17 years of age at the commencement of service; or under special circumstances be an out-of-school youth 16 years of age at the commencement of service.

 

  • Be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the U.S.

 

 

  • Specific AmeriCorps positions may have additional requirements, so be sure to check for additional requirements in any AmeriCorps postings.

We are constantly recruiting new community partners to expand the number of positions we offer. Our continual recruitment means that positions will frequently open up, so try to keep up to date with the position postings below.  

ThrYve Position Opening

  • The ThrYve Youth Development Facilitator position is open! In this role you will support youth violence prevention programming by engaging directly with youth and helping developing curriculum and activity plans.
  • Please note federal work study is required for this position and you will be required to drive to the Kansas City area once a week to directly support youth programs.
  • The pay for this position is $10/hr with a max of 10 hours per week.
