Kate Kemper (she/her/hers) is the Associate Director for Student and Civic Engagement in the Center for Service Learning at the University of Kansas. She focuses on individual student and student service organization development, civic engagement programming, and communication of CSL programs, resources, and other relevant opportunities. Kate leads the CSL's Civic Engagement Ambassador program and serves as a staff advisor on behalf of the CSL for five student service organizations: Alternative Breaks, Center for Community Outreach, HEAL KU, LEAD UP, and Student United Way.
Kate holds a M.S.Ed. in Higher Education Administration from the University of Kansas. Before coming to KU, she spent a year serving as a Green Iowa AmeriCorps member in Des Moines, Iowa after graduating with degrees in environmental policy and international relations from Drake University.
Kate has served on the planning team of the Kansas Service and Civic Engagement Conference, as well as the IMPACT National Conference, for a number of years.
Kate enjoys working in service learning because it is a valuable space and opportunity for students to put into practice the concepts they learn in the classroom, and critically reflect on their own identities, experiences, and perspectives on societal issues and community-created solutions.
