The Engaged Scholar- Expanding the Impact of Academic Research in Today's World

Andrew Hoffman is the Holcim (US) Professor of Sustainable Enterprise at the University of Michigan; a position that holds joint appointments in the Stephen M. Ross School of Business and the School for Environment & Sustainability. His 2021 book, The Engaged Scholar: Expanding the Impact of Academic Research in Today's World (Stanford University Press) argues for the emergence of a more publicly and politically engaged scholar. The Engaged Scholar is a call to make the path toward public engagement more acceptable and legitimate for the academic scholar in today's world.

The Engaged Leaders Speaker Series is presented by the KU Libraries and The Commons.

1:30 pm - 3:00 pm CST: Creative Documentation Workshop

Host: Meg Jamieson (KU Film and Media Studies)

Through sharing work with engaged colleagues Megan Kaminski (English) and Joey Orr (Spencer Museum), Meg Jamieson will emphasize discovering mutuality and creating and maintaining value when working with artists and from within community organizations. She will guide through tips and tools for participants’ own community engagement endeavors, highlighting the Community Toolbox, and will provide examples of how creative documentation is used and seen in large projects at the national level and in our own backyard in Lawrence.
