The Center for Service Learning opened in 2005, and it represented the work by students, faculty, and administrators.

The Center incorporates and expands efforts in line with KU's Bold Aspirations strategic plan, oversees the service learning efforts at KU, including class designations, student certificates, and service learning partnership support. In addition to these efforts, CSL will contribute to the core educational goal that students be able to practice social responsibility and demonstrate ethical behavior.

The CSL provides support and resources for faculty in designing and implementing service-learning courses. We also assist the University Registrar in documenting student participation in a designated service learning experience, coordinate or facilitate communications between other offices of teaching or service at KU, and advocate for service learning at KU by offering high visibility events or resources (e.g., workshops, on-going seminars, service-fairs, teach-ins, and public lectures).

Our mission is to foster teaching, learning, and research experiences that develop civic agency, address social challenges, and cultivate a shared commitment to the public interest.
